Make your own skin care products
Most of us buy our skin care products in the store and don't know any other way to cleanse our faces or moisturize our outer layers of skin to promote a healthy glow. For centuries, however, the only type of skin care that was available was the homemade kind. There is a growing number of people who are striving to return to these traditions in order to rid themselves of the unnatural chemicals found in many of the skin care products on the shelves today. You can find recipes for homemade products to alleviate virtually any problem you could possibly be having on your face or body, from age spots to cracked feet. The examples below illustrate how easy it is to make a homemade skin care product for two of the most common problems - dry and oily skin.
Cleanser and Moisturizer for Ultra Dry Skin
Cleanser
1. ½ teaspoon grapefruit seed extract
2. 1 teaspoon glycerin
3. 1 teaspoon jojoba, St. John's Wort or vegetable oil
4. 2 ounces aloe vera gel
5. 4 drops rosemary essential oil
6. 8 drops Sandalwood essential oil
2. 1 teaspoon glycerin
3. 1 teaspoon jojoba, St. John's Wort or vegetable oil
4. 2 ounces aloe vera gel
5. 4 drops rosemary essential oil
6. 8 drops Sandalwood essential oil
Combine all the ingredients together carefully before applying, and make sure the mixture is stored in a container you can easily shake before each use.
Moisturizer
1. ¾ ounce shaved beeswax
2. 1 cup distilled water
3. 1 cup vegetable oil
4. 24 eye dropper drops rose geranium essential oil
5. 800 IU liquid vitamin E
2. 1 cup distilled water
3. 1 cup vegetable oil
4. 24 eye dropper drops rose geranium essential oil
5. 800 IU liquid vitamin E
This one is slightly more complicated to create. You'll need to heat the oil and beeswax until the wax is barely melted, but isn't so hot that you can't touch it. Then, you'll use a blender with the center of the lid removed to combine the water with the oil and wax mixture on the high setting until it solidifies into a cream.
