symptoms of cancer that no one pays attention to
Patients talked about signs of the onset of the disease.
"I did not think that this could be something serious," - so the researchers of the Royal College of London called their work. Experts interviewed patients with brain cancer. And they said that before making the diagnosis they noticed strange things in themselves, but did not attach any importance to them. As a rule, attributed to stress, increased workload or just age.
“We want to show what signs you need to pay attention to in everyday life in order to see doctors as soon as possible,” the scientists explain in their work.
"Felt a smell that is not there"
In all patient histories, one can find something in common. Most often, people noticed at home:
- short-term difficulties with speech and (or) spelling;
- impaired concentration, memory, coordination;
- trouble sleeping;
- headaches, dizziness;
- fatigue;
- drowsiness;
- sensitivity changes (to food, light, color);
- character changes (e.g. irritability).
- “When I was drinking tea, it seemed to me that on one side the cup seemed to tremble,” said a woman from the age group of 61-70 years old (the participants were interviewed anonymously with distribution by gender and age). “But often when you get tired, your hands begin to shake.”
“It seemed to me that the point is in my work, because teachers are always tired,” the study participant aged 21-40 years explained.
- I began to want to sleep during the day. I fell asleep and thought: no wonder, I’m already 50, one of the respondents said.
“I had a feeling that my tongue was a little tangled when I speak,” says a woman aged 41-50.
“Sometimes I forget the words.” I was sure that it was fatigue, - a man of 71 - 80 years old admitted.
Another patient said that she suddenly began to smell something that others did not. But she thought it was foolish to bother with such feelings of doctors, busy with serious problems of "really sick people."
No panic!
Admit it, have you found one or more symptoms? And no wonder: from fatigue, stress, you can really forget the words and fall asleep on the go. Moreover, experts emphasize: these signs can indicate a variety of neurological problems. So you do not need to immediately suspect terrible diagnoses in yourself or your relatives. But you need to check.
You need to start with a neurologist. If your clinic has a turn, contact your GP.
If a neurologist or therapist considers that your suspicions of oncology may be justified, they will give a referral to an oncologist.
