A mole is a protruding growth of the skin cells that forms a lump on the surface of the skin. These are considered as birth marks but they can grow at any time without any specific cause. They generally start off as a flat black mark on the skin that eventually grows to a bump. In most cases they are completely benign growths and are only considered as problems from a cosmetic point of view but there are some cases where the moles are symptoms of skin cancer or melanoma. It is only these moles that are considered dangerous because they are indicators of carcinogenic conditions in the body.
Since they are benign there is no real need to remove them but the growth can be quite unsightly, especially if it is on visible areas of the body like the face or neck. There are many treatment options for the removal of these growths. Surgical removal options are usually the swiftest options. There are 3 main ways to remove moles by surgery. The first is when the dermatologist uses a sharp scalpel blade to cut the mole from the surface. This is quick and usually quite painless. There are no sutures required. In this method the root is not removed so there is a chance of a relapse. The other method is one where the surgeon scoops out the entire growth, root and all. One or two sutures are required in this method. The last one is a normal surgery and is generally used for very large growths.
There are home remedies too that can be used. In these methods the removal process involves the acid burning or peeling off of the growth.
